Year-end retrospectives
Post 27 of 30
We're 91% of the way through 2022, according to @YearProgress. This is both terrifying and thrilling.
Terrifying, because it's a reminder that we've come to the end of yet another year. A reminder of time's unstopping march forward, and how the years seem to feel shorter as we age. Even though time might not be real and it's all in our heads. Thrilling, because the opportunity of a new year and a new start is right around the corner. I love newness. Year-ends get me reflecting about:
cycles – progressing through the whole year;
beginnings and ends – 1 January and 31 December, and
hero's journeys – the meaning I made out of the year
Year-ends are an opportunity to stop and reflect. I like to make sure that I have a whole day, entirely for myself, to perform a retrospective. I do this in the form of Year Compass. Retrospectives are important because if you don't look at what you've done and how you feel about it, you can't improve your future. Retrospectives are a key ceremony in Agile for this reason. If you’re a Notion person, I’ve also used this nifty template. If you’re bold, you could mash up Year Compass and the Ultimate Year End Review.
Take time for yourself to reflect. You deserve it.
