Today was Year Compass day
Post 46
I wrote about the value of year-end retrospectives in this post. Well, today was the day when my friends and I got together (remotely and online) to do an annual review together. This is my 3rd or 4th time doing an annual review, and every year it feels like a valuable (though intense) activity.
If you’d like to do an annual review, I recommend starting with Year Compass, with at least one other friend. It’s a much more pleasurable experience compared to doing it alone. Once you’re comfortable, move on to something like Steve Schlaf’s Annual Review.
Something that stumped me in this year’s annual review is the question, “What was the biggest risk you took?” I didn’t think I took any risks this year. Then my husband reminded me that continuing to live the self-employed life was a risk. Like someone standing on the edge of a cliff, on one leg and saying, “This isn’t risky.” Ok, so this lifestyle is risky. But I didn’t consider it to be a new risk that I took this year.
Upon deeper reflection, I think the biggest risk I took this year is embarking on the Newfield ontological coaching program without knowing where I’ll be at the end of it. It’s a significant expense at S$15,000 for a 9-month program. I expect I’ll be a changed person at the end of it, that’s all I know.
